Why I (Voluntarily) Lose Sleep

By Lauren Mohatt, Events Manager

Yeah, you read that title correctly. I have found that I sleep less hours during this season of the year compared to any other. Why you might ask? Great question! I opt out of the recommended 8+ hours of sleep each night because I would rather spend all of my time planning TWO of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ annual fundraisers, Big Basketball Bash and Bowl for Kids’ Sake.

Some call us crazy for holding two large events within the same month, but let’s be honest, we wouldn’t have it any other way! As the Events Manager, I have the unique opportunity to engage our community with the organization that I love the most. I can honestly say this time of the year energizes me more than it wears me down. Instead of sleeping, I find excitement in giving presentations at companies around the metro, answering phone calls to spark new connections and thinking of new ways to improve upon what has been done in the past with both events.

Know this: You should get involved with both of these events! You will thank me later, and I’m going to venture to say you’re going to tell me you wish you would’ve participated a long time ago!

Maybe you are one of our veteran attendees or maybe you are brand new to BBBS events. Either way, WELCOME and THANK YOU for your support!

What is Bowl for Kids’ Sake?

Bowl for Kids’ Sake (BFKS) is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ signature fundraiser, raising over $390,000 last year for youth in our community. You can form a team with 4-5 of your friends, family members and/or coworkers and raise money for BBBS. Spend some time between now and the bowling sessions in April and May fundraising online. We ask that each participant raises a minimum of $100, which gets you this year’s newly designed BFKS t-shirt. As a celebration of your fundraising efforts, you will receive 90 minutes of cosmic bowling, pizza, beer, pop and prizes! The theme this year is Peace, Love, Rock n’ Bowl – get excited! We hope you join in the fun!

New This Year – Kegs & Eggs!

In addition to hosting our normal evening sessions with pizza, beer and pop, we have created a fun new session at 10:30am on Saturday, May 4th! You will have the opportunity to enjoy bowling and celebrating your fundraising success with breakfast food and morning cocktails. Experience BFKS in a new light and have the rest of your evening to either relax at home or continue your celebration in the Maplewood lounge
