Fall Recruitment

By Austin White, Marketing & Recruitment Specialist

There are Littles who have been waiting over six months for a mentor in specific areas in the Greater Omaha Metro. We have made a significant effort to get out into the various communities to find suitable mentors for these youth. We have participated in the Turner Park Night Market in Midtown, Florence Mills Farmers Market in North Omaha, Bellevue Farmers Market in Bellevue and Benson First Fridays in Benson. Our ongoing partnership with the YMCA has us visiting one of the ten Greater Omaha Metro affiliates about every month as well. In September, we will be at the Healthy Living Center and Council Bluffs YMCA, focusing our recruitment efforts in the Council Bluffs community where a good number of our waiting Littles reside and where we need to recruit more mentors to match with these amazing youth.

As a member of the recruitment team, one question I hear a lot is “Where do the kids come from?” Our Littles come from different backgrounds and circumstances from all across the seven counties we serve (Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, Saunders, Washington, Pottawattamie and Mills). So, it is important for us to be present in those areas for the youth and their families. With school starting back up, a lot of youth are only exposed to the walls of their school and home. You can make an impact on a youth in the community by stepping up as a mentor and showing them all that they can achieve as a part of their biggest possible future!

For the rest of summer and continuing into the year, you can find us at the following locations:

     -Council Bluffs Farmer’s Market: 8/22, 9/12

     -Bellevue Farmer’s Market: 8/24, 9/7

     -Turner Park Night Market: 8/30

-Benson First Friday: First Friday of every month

-September Latino Festival at Bayliss Park: 9/7

-African Cultural Festival Omaha at Stinson Park: 9/14

-Fort Omaha Intertribal Powwow at MCC’s Fort Campus: 9/21

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, come check us out to learn what we are all about. We are the best Mid-Large Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in the country after all – just a subtle flex.
