Looking to get involved? Whether you’re interested in donating, volunteering or enrolling your child, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands offers different types of programs in our community.
What Is Community-based Mentoring?
Our core program, community-based mentoring, is spending time in a one-to-one relationship with a youth, ages 7 through 14, out in the local community. After all, to change a child’s perspective of the world, it helps to spend some time out in it. During these one-to-one outings and activities, Bigs and Littles do things they enjoy together, like:
• Taking a walk in the park;
• Going to the movies;
• Trying new foods;
• Playing sports;
• Doing art and crafts;
• Or just hanging out and talking.
Our agency offers two activities a month for matches at no cost, ranging from: ice cream night, visiting an orchard, ice skating, holiday parties and much more. We also have a wide variety of community partners who offer special discounts to active Big Brothers Big Sisters matches at their respective businesses such as: the Y, eCreamery, Starbucks, The Amazing Pizza Machine, Film Streams and many more.
Some Bigs meet their Littles on the weekends. Others get together with their Littles in the evenings. Each match is unique and develops a schedule that works for them. Making these matches, and performing all the background work involved with them, is possible thanks to donations from people like you. It's also why we're able to help various populations through our community-based mentoring program.
What Do We Achieve?
